Sonam Tsering was born in 1999 in Dzong, not far from Jharkot. In March 2013 he began a six-year programme at the Tibetan Medical Institute in Katmandu ), having previously been introduced to what being a doctor entails by helping out at the Tibetan Medical Centre connected with the monastery in Jharkot. His teachers were convinced that Sonam has what it takes to work to become a doctor, a highly respected profession in Mustang. And they were right. In May 2019 Sonam successfully completed basic course and started graduate studies in Nagtso Soring Bumshe Institute (Teen Deray, Swayambhu) and, in the same time, the Siddartha Vansthali Collage in Kathmandu.
One year of his education (tuition, room & board) costs $1320, or $110 per month.
